What to include in an outdoor survival gear would basically depend on the hiking parameters, not to mention the amount of load that one can carry along during the trips. To give you a glimpse of what's inside a hiker's knapsack, you may want to check out the list below:

• Tent – As hikers would often need a place to doze off while on camping, they could surely use a portable shelter that can be built in just a matter of minutes. Wide varieties of tents are available in the market for specific purposes. Depending on size, they can give shelter to at least two persons.

• Sleeping Bag or Space Blanket – The former has a zipper for sleeping in, while the latter is actually an aluminum-coated plastic material that helps maintain the heat of the body. Both are perfect for staying cozy during the cold evenings.

• First Aid Kit – Accidents and sicknesses can happen round the clock so it is only appropriate to fix some medical supplies inside an outdoor survival gear. Half of the time, it is through the first aid kit that most people survive even the worst-case scenarios.

• Water Jug and Ready-to-Eat Packed Foods – When the contents of the jug is consumed, it can later be used for fetching water from the river. Of course, you would have to have some purifying and desalinating tablets to make the water drinkable. As for the food, it is best to stock up on non-perishables and those that can be consumed right away.

• Fishing and Hunting Equipments – A good source of protein can only be acquired through fishing and hunting animals. Your daily nourishment can be satisfied if you are equipped with the right hunting tools. And since every hiking site seems to have plenty of game animals, you will need the right tools to bring them down. These may include arrows, bow, fishing pole, nets and baits. 

• Multi-Purpose Knife – Swiss Army knife is the most preferred by hikers since all of the necessary tools are tucked side by side in one handy device.

• Lighting and Signal Tools – A powerful flashlight is a must-have in every hiking site. It can be fixed on a headgear or simply held by the hand. Signal equipment are also commonly found inside an outdoor survival gear, as hikers will need them for calling the rescuers in case of emergencies.
